Asphalt pavement refers to various types of roads paved with asphalt materials mixed with mineral materials.
Asphalt binder improves the ability of paving granular materials to resist the damage of driving and natural factors to the pavement, so that the pavement is flat, less dust, impermeable and durable. Therefore, asphalt pavement is one of the most widely used high-grade pavement in road construction.
What are the general methods of paving asphalt pavement?
① Roller compacted. Asphalt concrete mixture is mostly prepared by hot mixing and hot paving method, which has good road properties, so it also has high requirements for preparation technology and raw materials, and most of them adopt centralized plant mixing method. The widely used asphalt concrete mixture is roller compacted type, that is, the mixture can be formed only after being compacted by heavy machinery. Therefore, some countries call it roller compacted asphalt. After forming, the road surface is flat, dense, less dust and has certain roughness, so it has better driving comfort and appearance; It also has good aging resistance, wear resistance, temperature stability and anti driving damage ability. The service life is generally long. When petroleum asphalt is used as binder, the overhaul life is often more than 15 years.
② Cold shop. Hot mix and cold paving of asphalt concrete, also known as cold ground asphalt in some countries, is often used for minor maintenance or projects requiring long-distance transportation of mixture. The asphalt used is thinner and less than that of hot mix and hot paving, so as to have appropriate looseness and viscosity at room temperature, but its service life is less than that of hot mix and hot paving.
③ Paving type. Hot mix and hot paving asphalt concrete mixture can be formed without heavy machinery compaction, which is often called paving asphalt. In order to make the paving asphalt mixture have proper fluidity during paving and can be compacted by mild tamping and plastering, there is a large amount of mixture of asphalt and mineral powder, i.e. asphalt mastic, whose strength mainly depends on the adhesion of asphalt mastic. Because the aggregate particle surface has been separated by thick mastic, its locking force and internal grinding resistance have been reduced, so the paving asphalt is less used for carriageway, but some European and American countries also use it for carriageway. At this time, the property requirements of asphalt materials are very strict to avoid softening in summer. At the same time, it is necessary to lay another anti-skid layer or add anti-skid aggregate to prevent the surface from slipping.
