Asphalt pavement is a pavement structure in which a certain thickness of asphalt mixture is laid on the flexible base and semi-rigid base. Compared with the gravel pavement, the strength and stability of this pavement are greatly improved. Compared with cement concrete pavement, asphalt pavement has smooth surface without joints, small driving vibration, low noise, fast open traffic, simple maintenance, suitable for pavement construction in stages, and is an important structural form of pavement in my country.
The disadvantage of asphalt pavement is its high temperature sensitivity. In summer, the intensity decreases, and if the control is not good, the road surface will become soft and oily or will be damaged by shearing. The brittleness of the asphalt material at low temperatures may cause pavement cracking.
Asphalt pavement can be divided into two types according to the principle of strength composition: insert-extrusion locking type and gradation dense type. The interlocking asphalt pavement is paved with asphalt surface treatment, asphalt penetration and asphalt gravel, which belongs to the second-class pavement. Dense asphalt pavement is paved with various types of asphalt concrete, asphalt mastic crushed stone, etc. It has high density and small pores, and is the asphalt pavement with the highest strength and stability, and is a high-grade pavement.
