What are the three layers of asphalt pavement called?
December 9, 2022
The three layers of asphalt pavement are called cushion, base layer and surface layer.
The cushion generally uses natural gravel or crushed stone cushion.
The most commonly used base is cement stabilized macadam base, in addition to asphalt base and graded macadam.
The surface layer is generally divided into upper, middle and lower layers, and the performance increases sequentially from bottom to top, from coarse-grained to fine-grained asphalt mixture, and the surface layer can also use anti-skid surface layer.
Related introduction:
The construction raw materials of asphalt concrete pavement are mainly asphalt mixture. Because of its typical rheological characteristics, the stiffness, toughness and strength indicators of its construction will tend to decrease with the increase of temperature.
The high-temperature stability and fatigue resistance of asphalt mixture, the low-temperature crack resistance, pavement surface characteristics and durability are mutually restrictive and contradictory. In fact, the ratio design of the mixture should balance or optimize the height of various properties. It should be analyzed according to the local climate conditions and traffic conditions, and try to take into account.
